I have come across a natural pond that has formed over the years in a wood near me and cleaned it out a bit, so it's clear and have tested it's PH which is neutral. It is in quite a shaded area though but it does get some sunlight and has some water plants in it but what I want to know is whether it would be suitable to put fish in and would they survive?
Hello AaronP and welcome to fishkeeping This natural pond, does it have any life form in it already that you know of like tadpoles or insects etc, as this would be a good sign that fish may be able to survive in it, eg. stickle backs or are you thinking more in the line of goldfish.
you say the pond is located in some woods near you, the question is who owns the pond? there are regulations re moving fish, stocking etc, & if the pond does not belomg to you then you may get into trouble.the environmentalists may be after you good luck with the pond, i hope you succeed. ray. ps. i wont say owt!
Be careful - other than the advice above you may disturb the balance of the pond by adding ( especially too many ) fish. May upset everything. Consider also predators.
