Most filters have their place in the market.It all depends on the size of your pond and the fish stock levels you wish to keep.
I have had a pressureised filter myself,but I personally prefare the box filters.The surface area of the foam and media are quite restricted in the pressurised filters,but dont get me wrong, they can do a job in the right situation,they are neat and can be hidden out of site if that is your requirment

Dont they do a better job of filtering with being pressurised ?

in my expericnce of having a similar filter i would say that its main advantage is the backflush system. This allows cleaning by reversing the flow through the filter,squeezing the sponges together and flushing out waste.

The sponges are usually quite small so the trapping of waste particles could be reduced and the surface area of the media is quite small.This is where your benefical bacteria colonises.Both these issues can restrict fiteration.
They are fine if you are stocked at a reasonable level,perhaps consult with the manufactuer about safe stock levels and the max pond size is 500 gal for this filter

The filter mentioned is not what you think it is.
If you read the small print it clearly says;

"NOTE: Pressure-Flo 2500 does not have a biological filtration chamber."

So in effect its only an expensive sieve.

I think the pressurised filter is a waste of money, its not unusual for them to split in winter if mounted on the ground (As opposed to in the ground)

I can't help but think they were invented just so you don't have a big box near the pond, but you still have to have pipes and cables for it. Most of them waffle on tell you about their unique flush / cleaning system. The first ones didn't have it, and people did not turn the pump off when they removed the lid.

Get a normal "box filter and separate UV" much better and less hassle.

After owning and operating both types of filter I would agree and have come to the conclusion that the normal box filters do a much better job

ThankYou all for the replies sorry i have not replied sooner as my dad has been porly in hospital i will get a box filter then as to the uv i never knew you could buy that seperate for a pond how does it work does it go in the pond or does it connect to the pipe work regards brian
