if you layed the butyl liner correctly, and built solid foundations with a layer of sand then the liner should be absolutely fine, providing you are not suggesting walking on it with rock climbing boots!

How about carpet underneat the liner?

Yeh carpet should be fine, but it doesn't fold very easily so if you can, I would suggest getting some liner underlay. :)
