Does anyone know what this is please? #1
One of our orandas is looking quite swollen on one side and there seems to be some kind of white puss coming our of the swelling (looks like cotton wool but is only in one spot).

She has been suffering from what I thought was swim bladder for the last couple of days on and off.

I checked water yesterday before doing a partial water change and it was fine.

I put her in a quarantine tank last night and put a couple of drops of Esha 2000 in there (haven't fed her today).

Two of the 3 orandas left in the tank are sitting on the bottom in the corner but do come to the front when I go up to the tank as they are looking for food (haven't fed them today either).

Anyone any ideas what it could be please?

Hi krabbiePattie

Looking from your photo it looks just like what my oranda had, it was like a large spot that burst.

This is the thread that I started with mine

http://www.fishkeeping.co.uk/modules/ ... 59&forum=1#forumpost65065

Also some of the pictures

http://www.fishkeeping.co.uk/modules/myalbum0/photo.php?lid=1588
http://www.fishkeeping.co.uk/modules/myalbum0/photo.php?lid=1587

This 'spot' came up three times in all (it was quite a large lump too) and seemed to burst, the white stuff just disappearing. I treated with melafix and since then there has been no problems

No-one seemed to know what it was

If it is the same as mine you should be ok, make sure your water is in tip top condition too.

Good luck

Thanks maggot.

You are right, it does look like a pretty big whitehead!

Have just checked her water and added a couple of drops of tea tree oil (there is already Esha 2000 in there).

Shall see how we go.

Cheers

Think it is slightly more that just a spot as such as her side looks swollen too "unless that is just the angle of the photo" think you may have been better off retreating with some Esha if it is internal

Yes, her side is quite swollen.

I have put a couple more drops of Esha in today as I did a partial water change after I noticed the spot had gone.

She is only in the small 18" hospital tank so I have added 2 drops of Esha for the internal side of things and 2 drops of Tea Tree for the external (I added 2 drops of Esha 2000 yesterday).

Do you think I should also add a tiny bit of salt?

I wouldn't have recommended mixing the Esha with the Melafx the Esha should be fine on its own although some salt would have also been ok to add

I did only put 2 drops of tea tree in.

Do you think I should do a partial water change, say 20% or so to dilute it down or just leave it now and put more Esha in tomorrow(3rd day)?

If I dilute it down by doing a water change it will weaken the tea tree but also the Esha.

If your fish is not showing any signs of distress then you should be ok to leave it, some do mix melafix with other treatments but not advisable really unless it says it is ok to do so

She is showing no signs of distress and is eating fine or was yesterday.

I am going to hold off feeding her today, she was a little porker when I bought her and hasn't changed much so it will do her good!
