juwel vision light problems #1
bulbs went last night so i thought they just wanted replaced. went and got new ones today, unit still not working. cant see a trip or a starter on the light unit at all - seems to be fully sealed. does anyone know how to fix them? i cant afford nearly £100 for a new unit!

Re: juwel vision light problems #3
I had that problem with a Juwel light unit, ended up forking out for a brand new unit.

Didn't want to be pulling it all apart to see what was wrong, and making it worse!

the new units are silly prices!

Mine was 2nd hand too.

Its a real pain when you're all geared up and then something goes wrong.

Love to hear what Juwel say though.

Re: juwel vision light problems #7
Afraid I have been a victim of these units too - have had my Rio 180 since August 2002 and am now on my third light unit. Very, very frustrating.

When the first went, I got a portable appliance expert to have a look and he said it was a gonner - the replacement only lasted a few weeks (faulty) and then the next blew too.

I'm just waiting for this one to go too - so if you find a good solution please let me know, as they are a small fortune!

Oh pants - I have 2 Juwel tanks. Its gonna be expensive.

Can't have no lid on my tanks either as the cats will be fishing!

Re: juwel vision light problems #9
Well , if it's busted , there's no harm in taking it apart is there ?

Is it T8 tubes or T5 ?

If T5 , chances are it will be an electronic ballast in which case you are screwed . When the light used to come on , did it flicker like a flourescent on startup or just come straight on ?

Never know , might be something simple like a corroded terminal , worth a look ...

Don't forget to unplug it first , and if you undo any connections , take a photo with a camera phone first so you can remember which way round they went !

Re: juwel vision light problems #10
its t8 bulbs. had a look on the net and arcadia sellssomething called the I bar which is basically a replacement for the crappy juwel thing, althought they dont actually say that of course. they just hint...
still quite dear though i can only find them in t5 although the arcadia web site says they make them in t8 too. i just cant find them. i dont want to upgrade to t5 as the bulbs are a bit dear and i cant get them round here.

im going away for a little cry.

ps the lights always came straight on - and they were on when they blinked off if you know what i mean
