What pond pump? #1
Hello, I've got a pond that's 6 feet x 3 feet x 2 feet deep at it deepest point. I believe the volume is about 220 gallons. I have a UV light and filter box at the top above the waterfall that is approx 3 feet above the pump. The pump has just about given up the ghost after 20 odd years. I want a decent flow rate through the light and filter, so can anyone suggest an adequate hourly rate for the new pump to overcome the head of water and give a good flow down the waterfall and back into the pond? Also, what's a decent make these days? Thanks...

Hey welcome to the site,

I dont suppose you know whats the maxium flow rate ur filter and UV can take do u? Or what your old pump was running at?

Best pumps to look at nowadays is the Blagdon Amphious range, Hozelocks a good make, or Oase which is the best but pricy.

Had a look at the filter box- it's a 'Flotech' brand. Box is 18"x12"x12" and the inlet/outlets are approx an inch across. Nothing on there about a max flow rate though. Any idea's?

Can't see anything. Anyway I don't know if that will help as a quick look this morning confirms the flow has slowed to a dribble. It's never worked properly since we inherited it when we moved in. Can anyone recommend a reasonable required flow rate for this type of setup?

When was the last time you opened the pump up and cleaned around the impellar?

Flow rate, i would imagine would be around 110 gallons per hour if the pump and filter was for a 220 pond. Was the filter and pump in a set?
