Some good tips on keeping goldfish #1

Edit:
Lots of good advice above that still stands, although the stocking level has changed a bit over the years as we have become more aware of the fishes requirements and growth potential, it is recommended at least a 3 foot tank for two goldfish to allow for growth, no old fashioned goldfish bowls allowed ok peeps

Yep, I agree with everything there, some very good tips. We could do with one like that of our own though *hint hint Peedie*

Re: Some good tips on keeping goldfish #4
Although the article is quite clearly written for goldfish, I would say that most of the points are equally valid for tropical fish and represent general good practice :)

Re: Some good tips on keeping goldfish #8
Hey could anyone give me some advice on catching my goldfish.
I need to catch them once a month when i clean the tank out. I have a fine mesh net which i use (or at least try to use)to move them from the main take to the see through tub i put the in when cleaining the tank.
the problem is when i put the net in they start to go crazy
i can normally get my younger one using a few flakes on the surface to tempt him up, but the other one is a nightmare.
It just swims round and round the tank and i am scared i am hurting it when i catch it because it gets in between the net and the wall!
Help plzzzz

Re: Some good tips on keeping goldfish #9
You shouldnt need to take the fish out to clean the tank. Use a gravel syphon to change the water and an algae scraper to clean the glass.

Do you change ALL the water when cleaning the tank?

Re: Some good tips on keeping goldfish #10
Don't remove the fish from their tank for a water change Instead, carry out partial water changes of something between 10 and 25% of the tank capacity each week and work around them
