what fish safe woodstain/varnish can i use on my pergoda? #1
hi..ive just joined the site and picked up some great tips about ponds already :)

now,i have a large rectangle pond 3 feet deep,1 foot of it is above water, has a butyl liner and i was thinking of putting some clean new scaffold boards along the top of the wall to hide the liner and tidy it up,i also have a pergoda over the pond that needs staining/varnishing as well as the scaffold boards..what can i use on them that wont harm the pond/fish?

i did hear a polyurethane varnish was the way to go but not sure..

any ideas please?

thanks
dave

Hi Dave, welcome to Fishkeeping

Yeah, polyurathane varnish will be fine, just make sure the wood is totally dry before you put it near the pond, you don't want to drip any varnish in there

thanks caz :)

i will have to have a look in b&q tomorrow..most of the poly varnishes i saw were for indoor use tho..

i did contact sadolin today(who make stains/varnishes) and the rep told me to try a quick drying woodstain instead of the varnish for outdoor use and it would be fine..so totaly confuddled hehe

cheers
dave

Think as long as the wood is not actually in the water then you should be ok

Edit:

Just came across this http://kockneykoi.co.uk/productpages/menuliners.htm
