Betta fish died #1
Good morning all, I'm new to the forum.

Last night when I got home from work I noticed some loss of colour in my Betta's tail fins. This morning, I woke to him dead, with no tail.

I have deduced that he died of fin rot, but I really didnt know fin rot could kill over night like this.

The only new thing to the tank was 3 small shrimp, which the betta killed and ate....could this be the source of the fin rot?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome, and sorry to read of this.

It's likely your betta had a (possibly quick-acting) bacterial infection which culminated in the finrot. It *might* have been caused/induced via the shrimp but difficult to tell. Finrot can certainly result in a quick demise as you describe.

Re: Betta fish died #3
Thanks FCFM,

I went back to the seller to explain what happened, and it looks like the betta in the next tank also has the initial stages of fin rot.
