Help on Fish Isolation setup #1
Hi,

I have come into ownership of a new property which also has a small pond with a couple of large koi (about the length of my forearm) and 5 smaller fish.
One of the fish is poorly - I need some help on what I should do to treat it, do I need to setup a small isolation tank and if so what kind of filtration/aeration might i need to keep it going, while i treat the little one?

ty!

You can set up a tank with an internal filter sized for the volume of the tank, but will need to fill it with media taken from your pond filter so that it is cycled. Adding an air stone is a good idea when using medication.

thank you for the guidance.

the fish is about the size of large mango. what might be sensible for an isolation tank size?

Re: Help on Fish Isolation setup #4
I've found some second hand tanks on ebay for around 100G/454L, i'm struggling a bit with the pumps and filters though, they all seem to be 000'sG. I'd appreciate any advice on what I could do for a pump/filter solution.

Something that pumps around 4x the tank volume per hour should be fine.

Re: Help on Fish Isolation setup #6
Thanks for the advice.
Does it matter if i get a pump/filter that handles more? e.g. I can do 2x or 4x as much as I need.

looking at small 'koi' rated filters vs a 'goldfish/small pond' filter they seem to start around 4500L which is about 10x the size of my target isolation tank.

Re: Help on Fish Isolation setup #7
10x is a lot - might be too much current for a sick fish.
