Hoping someone can help I bought a second hand biorb 60ltrs . Thought I did everything right with the biorb heater , new filter , alll the biorb decks and pebbles . Left the tank for a week , water was ok today so introduced 2 little frogs and 2 guppies and 2 mollies . In my horror I’ve just read you need ceramic media ??!!!!! What do I do now ?!!
OK,. You have 2 problems - firstly the tank has not been cycled which means its occupants are being exposed to ammonia and nitrite which are deadly to them as they accumulate. Secondly, because there is no filter media the tank cannot cycle as it's the media that will hold the beneficial bacteria which process ammonia and nitrite when they start to grow. You must either add the Biorb media or add a small internal filter urgently. This won't change the problem with ammonia and nitrite overnight though, as it takes weeks for the beneficial bacteria to grow so until that happens you need to test the water daily with a liquid-based test kit like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/API-800-Tes ... 328bef:g:ggwAAOSwXode9ha9 and change enough water to keep both chemicals very close to 0 every time they rise.
