Nano tank chilling #1
Hi everyone.
Just wondering what fellow nano tanker use to keep their tanks cool in the summer months? I used to have 600L+ marine tanks years ago and that volume of water was pretty easy to keep at a constant.
Now I've got a 23L fluval edge and I noticed the tank temp go up 1°c today and it's not overly warm outside yet 😬
I've put a mini fan in the hood set to suck but would it be better set to blow? Most hang on fans I've seen seem to blow water across the surface?
Also seen some peltier type chillers but dont fancy using a metal water block too much.
Anyway, any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jon

Re: Nano tank chilling #3
I reviewed a fan specifically designed for aquariums a few years ago for Practical Fishkeeping magazine and the key with that was that it blew air across the water surface. cooling the water surface allows heat to leave the aquarium. It was very effective on the tank I tested it on. No longer available though, but your fan should do the trick if set to blow.

Re: Nano tank chilling #4
Thanks. I'll turn it inwards tomorrow and build a little duct to direct it towards the surface. Its tricky as it's a fluval edge 23 so there isn't a lot of surface 😅
I've done some crazy mods to it so far and just about to add CO² so what's one more mod.
Thanks again
Jon

That should do the trick - very ingenious
