Advice on a barb #1
Hi All

We have a 35g tank with community fish.
3x barbs
4x rumy nose
4 cardinals
3x corydorys
Kuli loaches

I do small weekly water changes. Have tested water and everything is fine. Tested water several times over last few weeks. Have a fluval 306 do filtration is good. All live plants in tank.
All my fish seem healthy. Only issue last couple of days is keeping g the temp down due to small heatwave. Temps reaching 84.
One of my barbs had started to get big.. I though it may be pregnant but just noticed the barb as picture. This does not look good.....anyone any ideas?

Thanks

Hi
The fish has dropsy, probably as a result of an internal bacterial infection. You can treat with Esha 2000, but as the fish is pineconing (scales raised so it looks like a pinecone), it is likely to be too late to save it, unfortunately.

Thank you for the advice. Any idea what could have caused it.....or is it just one of those things?

Re: Advice on a barb #4
Bacterial infections are opportunist so if there's underlying stress on a fish's immune system (wrong parameters, ammonia, nitrite present, nitrate too high, lack of space, etc) infection becomes more likely. However, when all those factors are as they should be some fish will still occasionally pick up an infection and its just the luck of the draw in those cases.
