Sick Electric Blue Ram #1
Hi guy,

I'm at not sure what's wrong with my blue ram - he was swimming upside down on the bottom yesterday and today he is upright although he has turned a bit black and appears to be dragging his tail. Any advice as to what's wrong and if I can fix would be appreciated
Thanks,
Craig

Re: Sick Electric Blue Ram #3
Sorry to read about this.

How long have you had him? Does/did he have a mate? Are there other tankmates, and, if so, what?

What do you feed him?

How long has the tank been set up? What is the nitrate level in your tap water? 0 nitrate is unusual in a cycled tank, hence asking.

Sorry for all the questions - just trying to get to the bottom of what's going on.

Re: Sick Electric Blue Ram #4
Hi thanks, any info is appreciated the tanks fully cycled it's a 30 gallon tank with 1 other blue ram,
10 tetras 4 peppered cories and a gourami not overly aggressive I think the nitrate is like 0.5 OR so I did a 30% water change 2 days ago I feed him flake food which he has been eating fine.

Re: Sick Electric Blue Ram #6
That's helpful, thanks.

On the basis of what you've described, I think it might be helpful for him to be fed something other than flakes. This might be helpful https://www.fishkeeping.co.uk/modules/ ... esheet.php?caresheetID=81, and other caresheets advise live/frozen foods like bloodworm and daphnia, along with sinking dried foods such as sinking pellets, and even fruit & veg. Sometimes the dried food, especially flake food, can swell up inside the fish, pressing on its swimbladder / buoyancy aid which would account for him going upside down; an adaptation to his diet as described might just be all that's required.

Let us know how he gets on with this, or whether we need to help further.
