Is there something wrong with my Angel? #1
Hello,

The bottom vertical fin seems to have a bend in it. Should I be worried?

Chris

It's either a birth defect or the result of an injury. In either case, not likely to affect him, so no, I wouldn't worry about it.

Ok that's a relief, thanks for your quick reply.
I'll keep an eye on it, haven't noticed him fighting any of the other fish so maybe from one of the ornaments/plants/gravel that it's happened with.

Hmm seems something is up. He isn't swimming upright and is listing one way or the other. He also seems to be getting caught into the intake flow of the filter.

He was not long ago rubbing his right side against the side of the filter casing and his right fin was also clamped in..

Uh oh!

Did it a water test about 30-60 mins ago.

No ammonia, no nitrites but nitrates were there a little 20-40 ppm.

Can do a water change tomorrow if it might help.

Hope this isn't the end for him, I don't have another tank to quarantine him either...

It sounds like whatever the problem is, it was responsible for him damaging the fin while being unable to swim properly. He may have an internal bacterial infection. Have you seen any symptoms of that - white, stringy poo etc.?

Not really, I'm away for most of the day and don't get time until later in the evening. I'll keep an eye out for this as well.

Would it be worth doing a small water change?
The tank is a Juwel Lido 120 for what it's worth.

Update this morning-

Swimming a lot happier, excited for breakfast I guess, happily eating but still swimming at an angle occasionally

Will continue to monitor anyway...

Glad to read that the situation was more positive this morning.

Yes, small water changes, and possibly on a daily basis during this time, can never be a bad thing - and ensures water quality remains in optimum condition which is vital at such a time.

Re: Is there something wrong with my Angel? #9
I'll start doing a couple water changes a week, think I have been overfeeding which may not be helping. Angel is still swimming fine now, looking much happier after that one night!!

I have also seen some white stringy poops from my other fish so hopefully this will help.

Another quick query about my angel - is it a leopard angelfish?

Thanks,
Chris

It may be - that's just a descriptive name for the pattern, but it's actually (like almost all angel variants in the trade) a line bred form of Pterophyllum scalare.
