Filters/ Pumps? I'm lost!! #1
I've got my daughter a 64 litre rectangular tank from ebay (after reading up and finding out that, as with gerbils, nothing Pets At Home sells is remotely suitable) which comes with a heater- optional if we use it- gravel, and plants.

Okay, this is great, it was a bargain and fits her room perfectly.

I know we need a filter, and an air pump.

How do I find the right size/type?! I'm totally lost! I'd like some advice on what fish to put in it later, but we're picking the tank up tomorrow and I want to get the pump/filter along with water conditioners etc so we can cycle it. Please help <3

Hi

You don't need an air pump, as long as the filter outlet disturbs the water surface slightly you'll get plenty of oxygen in the water. However, if you just like the bubbles from an air pump, get a small one. Be aware that some can be very noisy. I usually recommend Eheim pumps as they're so quiet and reliable. The "100" model would work for your tank size: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Eheim-Air-P ... m:mDXbln9zD6VTAd38xLxo4Gg

I also tend to recommend Eheim filters for the same reasons- reliablility and quiet operation. These would suit your tank:

Eheim Pickup 160: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EHEIM-PICKU ... m:mYAYAVTUDwgfvbVTrrs687w

Eheim Aquaball 130 (this also has a gadget to add air bubbles so no need to use an air pump at all): https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EHEIM-AQUAB ... m:mVDZ-23TTIpl84m_3my75_w

You'll also need a full liquid based freshwater master test kit: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/API-MASTER- ... m:mus6ISSe6hh_Tugj3Fs3zhA
and a bottle of household ammonia: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kleen-Off-H ... bc1838:g:ZfQAAOSww9xZHgsm to do your fishless cycle - see this article for details: https://www.fishkeeping.co.uk/articles ... hless-cycling-article.htm
