Owing to illness and other factors, my pond is becoming an issue. It's large -7mx3m and about 1 metre deep at the deepest point. I had surgery that went wrong and left me disabled - I cannot cope with the pond - it has a leak but as liner is now 15 years old, it probably needs replacing. It's all too much as I struggle to even cut plants back. We have lots of fish including large koi. I was wondering about the feasibility of reducing the size of the pond by filling it 2/3 and installing a pre formed liner in the remaining bit thereby retaining the waterfall. A huge job I expect for which I would need a tradesman. Has anyone done this - my rationale is I could then keep the larger koi, I so I would still have the joy of a pond albeit much smaller yet it would be more manageable than the current one. Any advice gratefully accepted. Il try and attach some pics.
Sorry to hear of your problems, I really can sympathise with that.
Making the pond smaller so more manageable sounds a good idea, but the fish will suffer as they will have less room to swim, and the water quality will change as there will be less of it, so you will need bigger filters to cope.
If your pond is leaking and has a liner, it really should be changed, but as that is out of the question............
I wish I could wave a magic wand and tell you all will be well......
You could try contacting your local BKKS branch, they may be able to get some volunteers to change your liner etc
Good quality costs. Bear this in mind before you start.
Sorry if my reply is NOT want you want to hear, but what I have said is true.
Hello and thank you for your reply. I should have explained things better - I do not intend keeping many of the fish, maybe just a few large koi that we have had for years. I have someone who will take the other fish off me. So basically I want to reduce the size of the existing pond by two thirds at least and just have a smaller pond down by the waterfall which is at the far end of the picture, maybe using a preformed liner. I was just hoping to find someone who has done something like that in the hope they could pass on some tips.
