Hi All what is the best rams can you keep with Discus.

There are only two species' of ram - Bolivians (Mikrogeophagus altispinosus) which are called "rams" for no real reason, just a common name. They aren't suitable as they need a higher pH than Discus and cooler water and the true ram (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi) which comes in a number of colours through line breeding. These are the ones that do well in a Discus tank as they also like very soft acidic water and high temperatures.

Either the German Blue or Gold rams would be my preference as the other man-made variants like "electric blue" and "balloon" varieties are weak due to too much inbreeding and in the case of balloons, physically compromised by the deliberate alteration of body shape for aesthetic appeal.
