Re: Can someone identify this fish please #2
Orandas should have a wen (head growth or cap) and this one appears not to from the photo. Some don't develop a full wen, but normally it should be present in "pure" Orandas from around 3-4 months old. I would say either this is not an Oranda but a fantail, or if there's a much underdeveloped wen not showing on the pic it's of mixed breeding. (S)he's a very pretty goldfish, nonetheless

Thank you both for your replies. Having googled until I can google no more I thing Fishlady is on the mark re the type of fish h/she is. You would think a large chain pet store would know their stock or am I being unfair !!!
She (having decided by no other means but her graceful moves is female) ;) is a delight.

If it's the large chain pet store I'm thinking of (the only big one I know of in this country) then it doesn't surprise me, they frequently offer very poor advice on fish. And sometimes it's not just fish - a friend of mine went there and asked about the age and sex of their chinchillas, and the assistant wasn't even sure what a chinchilla was despite the fact that they had them in the store!

Hi James. Its the very same store. I find advice varies so much from stores and independent retailers. I just go with the majority now. Now I have joined FK I can add to my knowledge base I hope
Thanks again to all.
