Dwarf puffer fish tank size #1
Hi Guys

I've always wanted Dwarf Puffers. I have a 27L tank which was a very brief home for my lovely goldies. Im thinking of using it as a species only tank for 2 Dps. My LFS advised it would be suitable for 2. After the terrible advice I received from pets at home when getting my fancies I would love to know if any of you guys agree a planted 27L would be a good home for 2dps.

any advice is really appreciated!

Cheers

27l is really a bit on the small side for any fish. For Dwarf Puffers the minimum recommendation is 45l. If you haven't already, check out our caresheet for full information on how to keep them.

Thanks for your reply and the sheet is very informative. Info on the net on DPs is quite confusing plus my local aquarium seems to have given me not so good advice.

as I do really love little puffers I feel a bigger tank coming on.

Would 45L be big enough for 2 DPs?

Hi

45 litres would be fine for a pair or a small group. The key is dense planting to give them hiding places where they can define territories.

Hey fishlady

The 27L tank has been replaced with a 54L... I've added plenty plants and some wood for hiding spots with a clearing for feeding... How many DPs do you think would fit comfortably? The chap at my local aquarium where I bought the tank said 6 Would be good but I'm not so sure about that, it seems quite a lots of little puffers...

Thank you for your advice as always! :)

I wouldn't go as high as 6. 4 is plenty in that size of tank. If they are too young to sex you may still run in to trouble if you end up with multiple males. Plenty of dense planting is a must.

Re: Dwarf puffer fish tank size #7
I thought that 6 seemed quite a lot!

3-4 it is then... I have attached a pic of my new tank, do you think there is enough cover here or I need to add more?

That looks nice
It does strike me that most of cover is in one area though?

Re: Dwarf puffer fish tank size #9
That's a great looking tank but the setup is not really goo for a group of dwarf puffer.

The problem is you need to set up your tank so that it will be divided into clear territory. The ideal way is to break up sight from each territory with a lot of cover so that the puffers will not see each other.

But you got a good looking set up there though :D

Re: Dwarf puffer fish tank size #10
Hey! Thank you for your lovely comments!...

You're right its bare on one side so I'll add more cover there... ive put a rock at the back in the middle.. looks ok need more plants.

This is defo going to be a dwarf puffer tank so I need to get it right for them.. how do I define their territories... do I need something else in the middle too?

Cheers! :)
