Re: Goldfish died today

Hi Ange
So sorry to hear the fish died
The excess slime coating you refer to is usually a barrier defence mechanism produced by the fish due to unsuitable or poor water quality.
The reddening could be nitrite related or triggered by bacteria (this can quickly turn into septacemia) and can be very nasty just as it would be in humans. Again this can be brought on by poor water conditions.
I've just checked your other posts and see you have fighting illness with these fish for a little while, ulcers and the like despite a trip to the vet when he recommended Melafix (which is quite a low grade med TBH, IMO).
Can't find any tank water tests though in your posts. Can you test tank for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH and GH please and post these findings here so they can be ruled out?
These are often the most common contenders when fish present with ill health symptoms.
Edit: Bear in mind that fish who don't have an ideal start to life, i.e. tank size, filtration size and feeding regimes, will often not make it long term as their bodies have been quite compromised from the start. We often end up rescuing such fish of course, but they always tend to be 'special care needs fishies' after that.
Big hug though, over the internet.
