beloved fancy upside down #1
Hi all.
Just looking for a bit of advice with regards to my lovely goldfish.
I got the little lady when she was no bigger than my thumb nail and up until now everything has been fine, but for the last couple of weeks she has been at the top of the tank upside down apart from at feeding time. She can get the right way but it's not that easy for her.
Tried feeding more peas than usual but no improvement.
All water readings are fine as usual. Don't want to lose her but a life floating upside down seems cruel :(
Had her for almost a year and she has grown really well. She's a ranchu apparently. Very round like a ball, don't know if this could be causing the problem.

Info regarding set up is on my profile x

Sounds to me like possibly Swim Bladder? Pretty sure FL will be along and can confirm or suggest other ideas.

Whats are your tank details and can you post your water readings please?

If its swim bladder I think the best idea it the blanched deshelled peas are supposed to help.

Hope she pulls through.

Hi.
I have been feeding more peas than usual to see if this helps, but hasn't so far.
Set up details are in my profile.

Water readings yesterday before water change were

PH 7.5
Ammonia 0
Nitrate 0
Nitrate 10-20

I test every week and these never change.

I hope she's ok too, thank you.

Re: beloved fancy upside down #5
Have u tried not feeding for a day or two then feeding the peas? If shes pooing ok that's a good thing, could be the stomach interfering with the swim bladder control, could be an infection that has set it off, or possibly just a result of the deformity of being a ranchu, nothing is really in the right place on fancy goldfish, it doesn't really do them any favours, they are bred for the appearance, unfortunately this doesn't take into consideration how well the body shape works for them! Can u post a pic of her, maybe some other visual signs that could help with a solution.
:)

Re: beloved fancy upside down #6
I'd second what Coralline's said, and her suggestion of not feeding for a couple of days and see how that goes It might sound mean but she'll be fine without food for a couple of days. Being upside-down does sound like there might be something amiss with the guts at the moment. If you draw a line from her vent to her pelvic fins, the guts are underneath that line, mostly, so if she's got irritated guts and there's gas in them that will be affecting her balance for sure. Sometimes it just needs some time with nothing going through the guts to give them time to calm down

Thank you for the replies ladies. We are currently on day 2 of no food. No change at the moment unfortunately. I plan to feed the peas tomorrow morning, fingers crossed!
I do have photographs on my phone, but not sure how I post them!

You should be able to do one at a time as attachments maybe? Or else you'll need to host them somewhere and post links For the attachments option look underneath the text box when you're writing a reply, there's a 'choose file' option and then click upload.
