Hi I'm new to this site and to fish keeping really. I bought these two Goldfish from a Pets at Home store last May. They were sold as Oranda's, but as yet they haven't developed a cap.. Am I right in thinking they should have by now if they are infact Oranda's? Could someone please tell me what they are if they're not..

yes that worked he has the markings of a redcap oranda but no wen/hood yet how long have you had them as it may grow although looks rather smooth

here is one I had some years back when first bought



then later as he grew

I've had him since last May so about 10 months.. I read somewhere that the hood tends to start growing when they are 4 months old, but have no idea how true that is. Its completely smooth and is showing no sign of appearing. My other Goldfish was bought at the same time but he's black, orange and white and his head is completely smooth too x

Since may if they were Orandas their hoods would have grown by now so I wouldn't hold out for them too after all this time, he is still cute though

Do you have any idea what he could be? He's so lovely and comes over to greet me when I go near the tank. I'd love to know what he is x

A would say he is a lovely little fantail do you have a photo of your other one

This is him when we very first got him, he's the same size as ''Hat'' now. Don't often get pictures of him, he's not as forward as Hat is, he lurks around on his own hence the name jaws lol x
