Dwarf blue guarami problem #1
Afternoon Fk

Very sad to say that the dwarf blu family
(M and 2f) has had casualties - one of the females died over night and the second is not looking great. Water parameters are fine. First thing checked. On both of them it appears as if a balloon has been inflated internally on the right handside just after the gills. Like a giant cist . Relatively speaking .

The living female is lying on the sand . She occasionally launches at the surface then falls like a stone .

Any ideas on what can do ?

The other fish look fine . The male is actually quite protective of her.

Re: Dwarf blue guarami problem #2
Ok checked the disease stickied link in the forum and looks like "Abdominal dropsy". Do not think there is anything I can do except hope she gets better. Also finding out the dwarf blues are prone to this condition sadly.

Is she does not make it , Is a blue dwarf male fine on his own . Or does he need same species in the tank?

Re: Dwarf blue guarami problem #3
The male will be fine alone.

Do you have your test results available? While DGs are prone to dropsy, it isn't a disease in itself, but a symptom and is usually the result of some other precipitating factor. Having both with the same symptoms together is unusual unless there's an underlying cause.

If you can get a bottle of eSha 2000, she may recover as I have successfully treated a Honey Gourami with dropsy using that in the past.

Re: Dwarf blue guarami problem #4
Thanks FL

Tank paramaters at moment are 0ppm ammonia, 0ppm nitrites , 10 ppm nitrates . pH 6.5 .dG 5. So nothing there that shouts an issue . Could be stress as the male guarami has been really aggressive to the girls in the last few weeks. Oddly attentive at moment. The male looks 100% as do the rest .

I'm very careful to Hoover the tank 2 or 3 times a day to keep the poop levels to the best possible . Just can't see a reason why !

Ill grab some eSha 2k if local LFS has it in.

Re: Dwarf blue guarami problem #5
If the male has been hassling them then that may well account for it Your water parameters look fine so it's not that.

Re: Dwarf blue guarami problem #6
Sorry to say she is worse. The other fish are taking pecks at her whilst she lays there helpless.

Feel she is suffering now. What's the most humane way to end it?

Feel sad as they were such lovely fish to watch

Re: Dwarf blue guarami problem #8
Thanks FL . I did the deed last night. Think she went to sleep easily enough with the clove oil. and the gin did the rest. Sad part of fish keeping .
