Local Sand #1
Hi i am setting up a marine tank and was wondering if i could use sand and shell from my local beach, on the east coast of Northern Ireland, as a live substrate.

Re: Local Sand #2
Probably not - firstly you can't be sure about its quality or whether there are pollutants. Secondly, it's usually illegal to remove sand from UK beaches

Re: Local Sand #3
not worth the risk, live sands a pointless exercise any way. Put a iece of live rock over a sterile sand substrate and it'll become "live" in a matter of weeks
