Little Furry Headed Beast #1
Hi,

Saw a bug in my new tank yesterday (2nd day of fishless cycling) wondered if anyone can ID it with this description:

wriggles in an upright fashion and about 1cm long - more or less worm like but with a furry head!

I will try and phoograph it if I see it again

I have not seen it today.

HI Bludolf, welcome to FK

Sounds like it could be one of these-

Do I win?

If you had fish then it would just eat it but since you are fishless (sorry to hear that!) then you might want to scoop it out before it transforms into a hungry blood-sucker.

HTH

Fishy-Fishy,

Its addictive is FK

Ok, ok... you WIN !
Spot on with the gnat larvae.

Thats good, I was starting to worry so early in the cycling process.

I think it may have already left its first home and leeched some blood from me because its gone missing! its probably been permanantly fixed to a wall somewhere by now!

Many, many Thanks

Re: Little Furry Headed Beast #5
Mystery solved!

I used to work with kids and one day one of them said she had found some tadpoles at the playcentre and was taking them home. I was very confused because there was no pond. Child produced a manky old water bottle with several gnat larva in there and would NOT be told that they weren't tadpoles. So in the end I had to give in and let her take them home I really hope her mum threw them out before they turned into gnats!

Ha, ha, hopefully mummy was clever enough to realize that they were not tadpoles - bet she got a fright when she saw them.

Thanks again Fishy-Fishy.

No worries. So what are your plans for the tank, it looks pretty good from what you've got on your profile <nosey smiley> No tadpoles gnat larvae?

Re: Little Furry Headed Beast #9
Have not planned type of fish yet because if I did I would start getting anxious and would probably rush the cycle. I simply would like community fish that do not pull up plants and #OOPS# nitrate remover!

Yeah, I'm pleased with how its starting, been doing a lot of reading on here so that has prepared me well.

Only concern is with my high nitrate levels (currently 80ppm), which is only going to rocket once the cycle is on its last stage, I know the plants will reduce this when I get them in next week, though I have not got a clue as to how much this would reduce it by.

Gnat Larvae gone - phew!

Will upload some setup images next week when the plants are in - good for the record :)
