Aqautic frogs and snails. #1
Hello,

can someone give me some advice please?

I have two African Clawed Aquatic Frogs, and I also have lots and lots and lots of snails.

Are they harmful to my frogs?

If they are, can I put something in the tank to get rid of them?

Thankyou,

JB x2

I can't think why they would be. Their presence in high numbers does indicate there's probably a lot of food going to waste in there though.

You can get predatory snails, known as Assassin Snails, which will eat them. I wouldn't recommend snail traps in case the frogs get stuck in them.

Hello Anna,

thank you.

I feed them twice a day.

In the morning I give them a pinch of dried bloodworms & a pinch of Aquatic Frog pellets....small pinches.

At night I give them a small lump of frozen bloodworms, artemia or daphnia.

There are only two of them I know...is this too much do you think?

I was thinking of a liquid we've seen to get rid of snails, but we didn't know if it would hurt the frogs. Do you know if I can use it?

Thank you very much,

JB x2

- my mum puts this on and says it's black coffee....I think it's blackcurrant....very nice -

I'm fairly sure that most snail killer meds affect frogs too

Best to reduce feeding going forwards and perhaps introduce Assassin snails to clean up the pests to date.
Please fill in your personal profile if you are posti

Hello Violet,

thanks, we wondered if the meds would harm them.

We have cut down on their food....not sure about assassin snails....I haven't seen them for sale anywhere.

I'll have a word with my mum and dad.

Thank you Violet,
