Can you find fish studs if you don't have your own boy fish?

I don't think it is a common practise to 'borrow' or 'hire' them as you could do with cats, for example for breeding purposes, especially among amateurs.

Are you planning for Mollie to have babies?

Very useful, thanks for that. Personally im wondering which is the female(s) in my pond, as there were some fry (unknown to me at the time, so only three survived and grew large) last year

I guess its easier to sex when they are in a tank as you can see them from the side

Very true, but imagine my surprise at finding them - this was an outdoor pond full of goldfish which I thought were all males

Re: Sexing goldfish etc #9
Not had ago at it yet..

Im assuming it's one of the two white fish in there, as the fry went from black babies into a white colour, rather than orange

Or perhaps that was just down to the conditions I kept them in once I bought them inside in a small tank hmm

Re: Sexing goldfish etc #10
heh. i always found the easist way to sex a fish is to wait for spring to come around and see which ones are bullys and which ones get fat.
