Thick green weed.... #1
Hi All,

Anybody else having problems with that really think green weed that seems to grow in the winter, I Had it in the pond last year. Was not there before Xmas. Really anonying as it blocks up the pump. Managed to clear most of it today with the landing Net.

Hi Jason,
If you havent already got a u/v,then i think its worthwhile investing in one, also you cannot go wrong with some small bails of barley straw sitting in the margins just below water level,also so if you have a bio-filter system,try putting some micron-bags attatched to your inlet pipes above the foam filters, i hope this has helped you,

Hi Martin,

I did not see your reply on here, Yes, I have a 30 watt U.V and foam filters etc. I was just wondering why the weed grew in the winter, Pond was clear in the months leading upto November time.

I have some tetra blanket weed treatment stuff in the shed. I do not want to put any chemicals in there at the moment though. I am having a problem with a sidewards Koi ( see thread ) and do not want anything in there that might make the problem worse for it.

I am interested in what you say about Barley straw and Micron bags though. I am assuming you put these in your filter tank?
