Shrimps #1
I have just set up a tropical tank with the following
6 Bosemani Rainbow fish
5 golden barbs
3 mountain minnows
1 Zebra snail

I would like some shrimp as I have always had a problem with Algae is this possible, I am a bit confused are they for marine tanks or tropical or both.
if it is possible which ones should I get and how many. I look forward to you replies Thanks Sadie

Re: Shrimps #2
ferst of ther ore some stocking usues with your set up

mountain minnows are a tempret fish and prefer cooler temperatures then your other trops as well as being shoal fish requiring 6+ fish to be happy

the golden barbs are the same needing 6+ shoal also

the Bosemani Rainbow fish need a ferly large tank themselves

so to start could you list the tank size temp ph ammonia nitrite and nitrate also gh/kh tests if you have them

Re: Shrimps #3
The minnows are nearly 3 year old (did have more)in feb 09. I did have a coldwater set up but have changed to tropical I increased the water temp slowly over a few weeks.
the tank is 22 gallon. and test results are
Ammonia 0
no2 0
no3 10
ph 7
the water is soft

Thanks Sadie

Re: Shrimps #5
remember to measure from the inside of the glass and from the top of the gavel to the water level line not the top of the tank you could still do with a few more barbs and the rainbows i think are going to be to big for your tank haw long is it i have a 46 gallon with rainbows of a simaler size to the Bosemani and they get big your looking at a 5 inch plus fish so as you can imagine they need ther swimming space they are very fast i wouldn't put them in less then a 4 foot tank

Re: Shrimps #7
I read up about the rainbows on aquatic life web site and it said min tank size 100lt and that they grow to 7.5cm just read the caresheet on here and it says min tank size 250lt and that they grow to 12cm. looks like a case of wrong info again. I am so peed off now

Re: Shrimps #9
the rainbows are about an inch and the barbs are smaller than that. no chance of a bigger tank. just have not got the room. and dont have any friends with tanks bigger than mine they are all smaller. the fish shop never take any fish back. I feel such an idiot I really thought I had read up on them and got it right. I had my son in my ear all the time "when can we get the fish" and thought I had took my time and done it right. I think I will have to keep them and keep a careful eye on the water quality. thank you so much I better forget the shrimps then. thanks Sadie
