pH difference! #1
Hi again all..... Coming up to the time that LHG suggests for a water change in my Blue Acara tank. The fry have been free swimming for nearly 2 weeks now and just did a water check and all is fine with a pH of 8. My main concern is my tap water is pH 7.5.Do you think the fry are gonna like this change if i add the new water really slowly?? Dont really want a massive fry die off..... LHG said that the fry are quite resiliant to Nitrate (upto 60ppm i think) so shall i just wait longer before doing anything?? My Nitrate level at the moment is about 15ppm (tap being 5ppm) so still pretty low.
Also, maybe a stupid question but why has the pH raised anyhow?? Many thanks again Doug :)

COMPLICATED QUESTION COULD YOU LIST ALL THE DECORE AND SUBSTRAIT IN THE TANK AND A PICK WOULD HEALP dam caps lock and also what everything is made from

but with a nitrate of 15 you could do a small 10 percent water change just to refresh things a little

will try and get a pic up to help but in the mean time i shall discribe......
Substrate is a fine gravel which has been "live" for about 6 months.a few inert rocks on the gravel for spawning and also a nice cave made from the same rocks finished off with a large plastic plant for cover over the cave.

Hope you can get some idea from my discription. ha ha

Just as a check, leave a container of tap water to stand for 24 hours then test pH.

it might be worth you investing in a gh/kh test kit

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/API-GENERAL-CAR ... Q_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

this will explain more about the courses of your ph rise

and hears a great article explaining haw gh kh and ph work together
