Regional forum areas? #1
Hi all

Just a little idea I have for some sort of Regional Forum area where people can discuss events, recommend or ask about LFSs, arrange meet ups etc.

The regions would be:

Scotland
Wales
North West (inc NI, IOM)
North East
Midlands
South East (inc. E Anglia
South West (inc. IOW and Channel Islands)

What do people think?

I've known this to work very well on other forums.

Personally, I dont think there is a need for it. There aren't that many yearly events cluttering up the General forum as it is and many people travel to events they find interesting. Discussing lfs is a very dangerous area legally as everything has to be kept very factual or clearly marked as a personal opinion to avoid fishadmin getting in trouble.

I don't see where the problem would be as opinions are personal opinions that is why it is a forum. If someone said that they don't shop at Tesco because they don't like them are the fishadmin going to get in trouble? No. So why would discussing the Pros and cons of LFSs be any different.

I am a member of a forum that allows you to rate motorcycle dealerships and give opinion on them without mincing words. There is no legal issues when you are talking personal opinion, fact or personal experience.

Anyway, if there is discussion about a certain LFS being very poor, hopefully, it may encourage the LFS to improve if they read the post.

Anyway, P@H get enough slagging off on this forum to annoy them and get the fishadmin into trouble (if that would actually happen) and people still do it.

The thought behind my idea is to make knowledge eawsy to find and easy to spread, that's what we are here for after all.

If an LFS has just opened, then let people know.

If an LFS has closed, let people know.

If you fancy meeting up for a pint, let people know.

I can't see any negatives to this idea.

I get the distinct feeling that some people on this site don't like change, even if it's for the better.

Each region could have a sticky listing all of the LFSs in that region and could be updated constantly as new ones open and others close.

I'm fairly sure there was a case in America where an LFS sued a forum similar to this one for giving the store a bad reputation and reducing sales as a result

That's why we're generally not allowed to specify which LFS store we're talking about (P@H is an exception to the rule).

Well if P@H is an exception to the rule, ther is no "rule".

Don't forget, USofA has completely different laws to us.

How about all of the review sites you have in this country, do you think they get sued by stores or manufacturers? No.

Does Top Gear/BBC get sued for saying a car is crap/ugly? No.

Do bike/car mags get sued for giving vehicles a bad review? No.

I don't see a problem.

I think it's a good idea. It's good to put a name to a face...as long as it's done safely and you let other people know where you are going to be, obviously young people would have to take an adult with them too.

Re getting sued: It is a very grey area with forums and whose responsible for the publishing of comments. We encourage factual information rather than personal opinion on FK.

Being sued rightly or wrongly would be such a hassle it's better to er on the side of caution.

There's a new LFS section in the pipeline that will allow some of the suggestions you have.

Re regions in the forum: It's a interesting idea but unlike many other hobbies, you can't take your hobby with you to chat about. If it's a car forum for instance you're meeting to show off your car.

Members do meet on occasion in our organised meetings or just through becoming friends on the site.

FK works really well as it is which is why new ideas are examined closely to see if they'll work or not.
