Re: koi with scratch injuries (bloody) being attacked by fellow fish

First off, this Koi should quarentined in pristine water salted water. Try to match temps, and then slowly raise the temp of the QT to around 24C. Salt his water to 0.1% (this is 1 teaspoon of salt per gallon of water) Make sure the salt id fully dissolved before adding to the water otherwise the fish will try to eat the salt chrystals and burn his mouth. You may need to net the top of the QT because Koi dont like being on thier own and he may try to jump again.
Take a good close look at the scratch and check his gills, and fins for me. His gills should be nice and meaty red, not tattered. Also check for excesssive slime coat.
Can you get a picture of this fish? You can email it to me at
mango.fish@gmail.com.
Also you say the fish jumped? Koi will only do this if there is something in the water they dont like! Have you checked the water in the main pond? Also how many fish and there types are in there.
Oh and FYI, Koi DO NOT like being in tanks of any kind. The glass sides of an aquraium are way too stressfull for Koi. There is also a rule of thumb to follow with KoI. They need a bare minimum of 250 Gallons of water to thrive.
Anything i missed?
