hi, found on my hermet crabs shell! any idea what coral it is?

to me it looks like pulsing xenia when they're retracted... could have grown on the shell before the hermit moved into it... thats kinda cool :)

it COULD be dead, but xenia are relatively easily dislodged if they have a small base... it could fall off and end up attacting to something else or even growing on the sand

They like light current but a hermit crab movement might be irritating it. I would keep an eye on where it ends up and attatch it to rock. In my experience, Pulsing Xenia are quite hardy...

it's still closed up and just hanging on to the shell.
do you think i need to feed it? in my lfs it looked great but since i put in my tank it looks sad
