platy babies #1
I noticed when I got home today that my platy is pregnant. She visibly a lot larger then yesterday. My question is, roughly how long will it be before she gives birth?
I have put her into a clip-on breeding net in my tank just in case it happens shortly, but I do not want to leave her in there too long as she looks a little lonely. Thanks

Re: platy babies #4
try getting one of the plastic birthing tanks with the seperate bottom section which has holes in it for the fry to fall through.
if left in with the mother, the chances are she will prob eat most of her young.
if she is a lighter colour you should be able to see through her bodie and see the fry's eyes(tiny black dots) inside her.
once these dots start to get really prominant(sp) then she will be about ready to give birth
once she has had them get her out the birth tank /net b4 she eats them all.

I got home last night and found out we had platy babies too. Well only seen one, there maybe more hidden in the plants, we only got the platy's Saturday so we must have bought a pregnant one unknowingly.

im always finding odd fry in my tank, and you gradually seem to accumulate them with out any effort, I wouldnt worry unless you know a fish shop that will take them, its best just to let one or two surivive, or give some fry to friends, di

I've currently got 3 juveniles in the tank with 2 adult Platies, and 16 4 day old fry in a floating breeding thingy

I don't think I could bare the thought of the babies getting eaten though
