Re: Breeding Bristlenose #21
Hi all,

My albino bristlenose has been fanning the eggs for the past 6 days. I can still see the eggs.

Previously, I have always removed them before they hatch and put them into a breeder container.

Am I best to leave them in the tank? Or take them out as I have done before.

Thanks,
Cleany

BN males are usually very good dads and neither sex will attack the babies so unless you have other fish in there who might go for the fry I'd leave them be, but that's personal preference as I like to see fish parents raise their young whenever possible

Re: Breeding Bristlenose #23
Hi all,
I decided to put them in the breeder box because some of them were all over the tank! It will be interesting to see if any of them are albino.

Re: Breeding Bristlenose #24
Hi all,

I popped into my LFS after work tonight and the owner is willing to sell his long fin albino male (fully grown). He wants £40 for it.

What do you think? Fair price?

Seems a bit over the top to me. I've seen these at around £18 fora single adult male - £40 for confirmed breeding pairs.

It does a bit. I have been quoted £60 for a pair but that would involve £10 worth of petrol. It is such an elegant looking fish!

Are they as easy to breed as short fin BN?

Re: Breeding Bristlenose #27
Should be exactly the same - essentially they are the same species, just line-bred for longer fins. Not sure how the genetics work with this trait so you might want to check that out as it doesn't always follow with line bred traits that all offspring will inherit the modified gene or the actual physical trait.

Re: Breeding Bristlenose #28
Just had a look around for you and it seems the genes involved are unpredictable. That means you're not guaranteed even with a pair both displaying the long fins that all (or even most) of the offspring will have the long fins themselves.

Thread here on breeding this line bred variety on Planet Catfish has more info.

I agree with FL £40.00 for one is a bit steep

Yes, the genetics do look a little messy. It is an elegant looking fish though!

Is there a market for this type of fish?
