Re: Back like the preverbial bad penny #11
Goldies are much more lively today. BM still beat the commons to the food, but one of the commons cottoned on a lot quicker

They've also realised elodea is delicious

BM's lost a scale on his left flank, and one of the commons (the predominantly white one) has 2 suspicious-looking white spots on its caudal fin. Too big for whitespot, but am keeping an eye on it. I have Mela and Pimafix at the ready.

Wellll, I dunno about that. The plants that I planted are still where I put them. Gave them a bit of fruit for tea last night, bless 'em they didn't know what to do with it at first. One of the commons soon cottoned on though :D

Good news!

The white spots on the goldy's tail have gone. No treatment needed.

Excellent stuff! Sounds like it was a legacy from dodgy water conditions then

Yeah, that's my thinking. In hindsight there was no sign of dechloronator in the house, so unless mum's friend threw it out (not realising the importance of it), chances are the filter was constantly being battered with chlorine as well as being inadequate.

Should have twigged sooner, tbh but the priority was getting the tank set up back here.

Re: Back like the preverbial bad penny #18
And the news just keeps getting better. . .

I MAY have a home lined up for the commons

I happened to mention the fish to a client at work and that I was looking for a pond for them to go into. My colleague then mentioned that she had a pond. With fish. I asked her if she wanted them and she responded with "Do you not want them, like?" I answered truthfully that I'd love to have them, but I want what's best for them and don't have a pond myself.

I'm working with her again on Sunday, so I'll keep you all informed. . .

Update.

My colleague's brother's going to take the commons. Just a question now of arranging a rendezvous time/place. So happy for these lil guys.
