Re: Appeal for advice re poorly goldfish #11
Hi Wendy,

I'm sorry that your fish is so sick.

With the lump, is it growing on the eye, over the eye or inside the eye? When you said that it is pinkish, can you see any small veins on it?

Can you please check his gills for me? Are they fresh meat red or pale pink? Tattered or nice fan shape?

Please post back ASAP.
I know enough to know that I don't know enough

Hi, thanks for your help, it's much appreciated. Lump growing over his eye, covering it. It started as a mark on his eye. I can't identify veins on the lump. As it started white and went pinkish, I supposed it was bleeding a bit internally (no blood seen in water). HIs gills look pale, but not tattered. Thanks again, W

Hello Goldy. It is similar to the tumour image though the lump on my goldfish's eye is smaller and less pink.

It is possible that it is a tumor although the fact that your fish is on its side and its spine is bent makes me wonder if it is a case of fish TB

Hi, thank you for link, just visited it. Hmm... His vet is due to visit in a minute. She isn't specialist aquatic vet but she has consulted with colleagues about him. I will ask her about TB.

They say fish Tb is not that common, but going by the amount of fish illness we are receiving lately about bent spines etc, it is possible it is more common than we think, I lost one of my own large 4 year old comets recently with a bent tail but no other symtems so I am left thinking maybe she had it

Re: Appeal for advice re poorly goldfish #19
Hi Ami21. In my search for help for biggy, i found vets v v reluctant to perform euthanasia on fish. From what I've read, humanely putting down fishes is difficult and there is the risk of making the fishy suffer more. Haven't discussed it with his nice vet yet. She was the only one prepared to visit him and with any interest, really. I don't think they believe that people would pay a vet bill for a goldfish. I'm glad to be proving them wrong!!

Hi again Goldy. I am very sorry about your comet.
About TB, I guess in the pet trade fishes are mixed with eachother with big risk of spreading disease and they must feel very stressed on occasions. On the other hand, if TB is over-diagnosed and lots of treatment given (assuming effective treatment)then there would be risk of bacteria becoming resistant?
