Re shells for shell dwellers i have found a number of uk sites offering hermit crab shells. Are these suitable for shellies and are there any precautions you should take before putting them in your tank to avoid desiese pass on?
just rinse under tap, if its fine for inverts such as hermit crabs then it'll be fine for fish, no diseases will be passed between the 2 really as the shells shouldn't have been used and should be clean already
whether the shellies use them or not i cant say

I have seen a few that have openings of around 1cm which would be too small for them to get in. I was hoping to put a few different shells in for some colour but without putting shells in that the fish will get stuck in lol!
Mine only seem to like escargot shells. They spit on all else (sometimes literally - they have chucked mouthfuls of sand over some of the offending ones). I have got some very pretty whale eye shells which are the right size and shape - nothing doing. In fact I have turned those over so I can see the pretty pattern, since they don't need to get into them. I've got some other shells in there too which are much too big, just as decor, and Top Fish occasionally pops into one but the others never do.
4 julidochromis regani 4 leptosoma (all i could find) 4 synodontis multipunctata 2 lamprolongus ocellatus 2 neolamprolongus cylindricus
was looking at adding more leptosoma when i find some but for the time being i think i have enough, there all juvies at the minute so when they pair up i'll just let nature take its course. seeing as i can't catch the swines
thought i'd posted some of the occies and julies i'll try again. lol
yeah the julies tend to run the show and don't bother the occies much and they tend to stand there ground fun to watch, as for the cylindricus there not to bothered but my cylindricus don't like each other so i can't see them both lasting :(
leptosoma and syno's i added on friday and they seem to have brought my aquarium to life finding it funny how my smallest occie swims by there side for hours and mimmics them got a pic on the missus phone i'll have to upload it for you to see.
