I recently moved house betweeen Edinburgh and Glasgow. Top floor flat to top floor flat with four fish tanks one 250l. It was a nightmare and one of the most stressful things i have ever done.

Great article ! My boyfriend and I will have to move his 25g tank when we buy our house, and I was wondering how we could actually do it xD

It's a good article but is this only for short moves? I am moving from Stoke-on-Trent to Yeovil at the end of Sept which can take around 4-5 hours when driving carefully. Will my like rock and fish be ok for this long? I also have a 300litre tank which is going to need a lot of containers, can i not take half and refill once down there. It's no different to doing a 50% water change anyway

i've made a decision over the last week to move closer to work which will save me a substantial amount of money on fuel. But, having myself an orca nano, I think my only choice is to leave pretty much everything in the tank and just drain to half way. my tropicals i dont think will pose much of a problem. But I think the idea of moving the tank the day before the big move is probably good advice. I think between my partner and I, we could handle carrying a half full orca down the stairs. I worry about the corals though, several of them are fixed in place on the rocks with reef putty so i cant just take them off without breaking putty and or rock to do it. Hopefully, i can lay the rocks in a more stable position for transport, get the thing drained, and still have most of the corals covered in water. Those that aren't, i'm hoping the spashing around from the drive will keep adequately hydrated. I'll have some water ready mixed at the new place so all I have to do is dump it back in and hopefully, i'll end up with the tank being the same, just with a nice 50% water change.

Will the tank be able to take the weight of the water with the corals as well?

I am preparing for moving my fish a ten hour journey.

The new tank is set up at the new house, and I am happy about moving most of the fish up - have heat packs, polystyrene boxes, bags, etc, etc.

But, I have three large catfish (8", 9.5" & 10") with big spines, who I'd rather not put in bags. How would you go about moving them? I have plastic tanks for each, but am not sure if they are the best option? Especially if they are only to be filled a third with water - not much space for them to move around for all that time.

Also, would you be happy moving 6" clown loaches (and their barbels) in bags, or would plastic tanks be best for that too?
