Re: Biotope #21
It sounds like a lot but when it says 1 plant it means like one stalk, not a bunch and when you see how fast they grow you will realise why they are so cheap! Especially stuff like elodea and hygrophilia, you'll be throwing loads out in a month or so cos you'll have too much.

Re: Biotope #22
ahhh, cool. What about substrate, they seem to recommend a £24 bag of red sea ash per 10gallons of tank water... thats going to cost me £240!

Re: Biotope #23
Oh yeah, substrate can be pretty expensive I've got laterite underneath sand in one tank and just plain old gravel in the other. It depends what plants you want really, if you go for easy ones like vallis, elodea, hygrophilia etc then they won't need fancy-pantsy substrate really, just some decent lighting and maybe some CO2.

Sometimes it's just a case of seeing what grows in your situation.. I only found two plants that were happy and one of those needed cutting back every week.

Re: Biotope #27
ok, haven't made a list about options yet, but i did look into the cocato cichlid. It was $35.00!! I really don't want to pay that much (times 3) its just way too much for a fish, (no offense to those of you who do). I think im gonna start doin more research and see what i can do.

Also plants don't sound that hard to work with now, so i think if i get this 12 gallon tank ill use live plants.

Wow, $35 is a lot for a cockatoo cichlid! They are only about £15 over here and we normally pay in pounds what you do in dollars for stuff. Anyways, there are plenty of fish to choose from. Have you had a look at our caresheet section for some ideas?

Re: Biotope #30
well i checked again, and that was a peacok cichlid. The only thing is i can't find them online, and now that i think about it last week when i was in the store i didn't see any either. Oh well, ill keep my eye out for them and keep on looking at other fish.
