Algae #1
I've now got loads of algae appearing in my maturing tank, is this normal and will it settle down? I have the lights on 12 hours a day for the living rock and algae has grown all over the substrate and the front glass as well as on some of the rock.

Thanks

Re: Algae #2
Yes you will get a good dose of the brown algae in start up tanks. It should settle down gradually. Don't worry too much at the moment. It is all part of the inital cycling process. Even in mature tanks you will get bouts of brown algae on the glass. Glass cleaning is par for the course with marines. Some have to do it more than others. In the future you will need to keep an eye on eg phosphate levels and keep them below 1.0. If Phosphate is high and nitrate gets high both can lead to algae blooms. For now, let it do it's thing.
You could do a water change but it may not make any difference at this stage.
Keep us informed though...
