Re: Linsay's Fish x3 #3
Thanks Goldy

It looks worse now he is in the hospital tank. It has gone blood red surrounding the white blob, i think it could be getting worse.

He is fine in his self - eating, swimming, breathing

How long can he stay in the salt solution, i change the water everyday and added the increasing amount of salt as instructed, but it only gives instructions for 2 days, today will be the third in there

I am very reluctant to put him back in with the others, but i seem to have the water almost right now - no smell and nitrite getting closer to zero.

What do i do?

Just taken 2 pics to show you the problem

Re: Linsay's Fish x3 #4
Linsay try this and see how you go on You may have already seen it on fc as I suggested it to Mary-Lou

Interpet recommend putting salt in with their treatments and I have found it to be good over the years, I use to put it in my tank as a preventive/tonic and the fish were fine until I got told by a specialist only to use if the fish were sick, it is particulary useful when the fish are suffering from ulcers, wounds, or abrasions, so you could give it a try and see, your other fish will be fine with it too which means you can put your comet back with them, follow the amount it says on the carton otherwise use 1 tablespoon to 5 gallons of tank water.

Re: Linsay's Fish x3 #5
Thanks Goldy, hadn't seen that before

Was going off the box of Supa salt and i was just concerned it said you had to change the water daily and then increase the salt

Also, how will adding the salt to the tank affect my filter?

What do you think Jeremy has got? Is it a gill problem or has he scratched himself? The white Oranda sometimes catches his back on the bridge and takes a scale off, leaving a red patch which goes after a day or two. I always add the Tea Tree remedy when he does this for a couple of days.

Had a big clean out today - bought an Interpet gravel cleaner - it's the best invention!!! Highly recommend it, the stuff stuck under that gravel was disgusting. I kept nearly all the old water from the tank, as to try and not upset the cycle. Not tested the water yet, will do later

Re: Linsay's Fish x3 #6
Hi Linsay don't worry the salt will not affect the filter. It could be a bacterial infection that Jeremy has, unless he caught himself on the bridge somehow, going by the photo it looks like its only on the outside of his gill is that right.

Re: Linsay's Fish x3 #7
Hi

It just started as a small white blob, then went, then came back bigger and after it fell off in the net, the redness appeared, i think he might have hurt himself in the net-he goes crazy in it.
My white Oranda lost a scale on it's back this weekend but the redness has gone now. I did put the Tea Tree treatment in when i saw it, just in case. It is a very clumsy Oranda i think!

I have also repositioned the bridge so it's not so tight for the Oranda to fit through.

Jeremy is very much happier to be in with his chums, i think this will aid his recovery.
Will put some salt solution on the water later.

Re: Linsay's Fish x3 #8
lindsay you could try salt baths, just disolve the right amount to aquarium salt in say 1 gallon of water in a bucket, add fish for 15 or 20 mins, repeat daily, if he improveds reduce to every other day then once a week, you can do this as a tonic, is says on the packet, for your other fish too, put them in first together for 10 mins,
I think only weekly if they seem fine, it will ward of any infection they may be harboring from the other fish, then take them out and add the sick fish.
The dosage is on the pack, a couple of table spoons per pint or something, i expect its slightly different depending on which brand you purchase.

Re: Linsay's Fish x3 #10
I hate to say it but i think Jeremy's condition has taken a turn for the worse
He doesn't seem his usual self and his spot and red patch on his face have got bigger. Have had to put him back into isolation for the sake of the other two.

Jeremy is my best fish, i hope he makes it
