Does anyone konw of the best fish to get that eats algea as my pond is gettin over run with it.

grass carp are probably the best at eating blanket weed (long strings of algae) but they also get huge and eat plants so not a good one in some ways, maybe some other carp, but then most like mirror carp etc get large as well, other than that i dont know of any

I'm not aware of any fish that really, truly works in controlling algaes in a pond. How big is the pond? What do you keep in it and what type of algaes are you fighting the losing battle?

How long has your pond been there? When a pond is a bit more established then all sorts of bugs and things move in and the algae problem should sort itself out. I can't really think of any algae eating fish that would be suitable, you could get a few ramshorn or pond snails though.

if i remember rightly, to controll algae and blanket weed in the rivers when we had bad problem with it many years ago, they added barly straw bails, think it was barly straw. I have seen them for sail in few places. Pets at home do the litte bails. Worth a look. Think this will do the trick and reducing it.

The pond is around 6 foot by 2foot by around 2.5 foot deep and i keep four large orfes 25 goldfish comets (there are 25 in the mixture) and a common carp. they are not all that big though biggest is around 10-15 cm

You keep all that in that one pond?!

The orfes are 2x 20cm and 2x 48cms long
