I do empathise, suffering from chronic health problems myself (and hence why I couldn't answer your original post beforehand), but for which I'm fortunate enough to have someone who lives here and who helps me with tank maintenance (and fishfeeding when required). All the best with navigating the rough patch, and hope some better days come soon.

Re 2010's response, that is definitely an alternative and potentially better option worth considering.
With chronic health problems, it's very easy during a better day/phase to believe that anything is or may become possible, but it's also very important to weigh up the reality of worse days/phases eg would the carer/s have time to do a water change, assess a sick fish and arrange for appropriate medication (eg if you weren't able to order it online yourself), or would this detract from what *you* need from them (which is most important)?
Shrimp are great fun to watch but tend to breed prolifically so you'd potentially be over-run with them. Nerite snails are colourful and can be fun too but frequently need flipped the correct way up when they fall upside down, as one of mine does multiple times per day.
A lava lamp may indeed be the most viable option (you'll know best) and potentially be easier to see from a lying-down position.

Perhaps some ideas to ponder while you focus on resting and "managing" your conditions. Best of luck.

PS. This is getting good reviews (but you'll know better whether it & the changing-light colours would be viable for you):

The fish lamp's look great, and yes good reviews, but they have not had them long. I had one, they do look good but they need looking after, and a lot of effort.
I shall explain.
The lid only pushes on (Very loosely) It has to, so you can get it off easily.
The lid has a hole in it. It has to, as the bubbles are air from an air pump, and they must get out.
You must use distilled water (A lot of people don't) tap water will leave deposits around the top.
The "airstone" at the bottom can and does become clogged (Not easy to clean)
The whole thing should be cleaned at least once a year
The water must be topped up (It gets evaporated by the air)

I really liked mine, but the air pump became noisy, and I was not always in the mood to clean it.
