Care and information help #1
Hi everyone, I have just inherited a 5 inch Polypterus senegalus. He has settled in very well, but I do not know anything about this breed and how to keep him happy. Any advice would be appreciated. Also if anyone could tell by the photo how old he is? Thank you in advance. Please no judgement, I have taken him in as a friend couldn’t keep him.

It's not easy to put an age on a fish, especially if already fully grown so I can't help with that, but here's a very reliable profile/care sheet for the species: https://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/ ... erus-senegalus-senegalus/

Thank you that’s brill. I will try and do lots of reading tonight. I am not sure how long we will be able to keep him, as by the looks of it they need a lot of space. Ours is only 130 litres. But we will see how big he grows, apparently he was sold as one of the smaller breeds? But I don’t know how true that is.

It is one of the smaller ones, but that said, will grow to around 20 inches long.
