What are bead like things in filter? #1
I took apart my Interpet, internal filter, to see what parts need replacing when the time comes, and curious what the bead like things are in it, and what is their function? Think I just about understand what a filter does, with the bacteria converting ammonia to make the water safe. Instructions on the box only says about replacing the pads though.

Will have to check when I get home later, but seen the same looking beads on other filter images online, so assumed whatever they are, are a basic staple of most fish tank filters.

Filters differ in terms of the filtration they have.
According to https://www.interpet.co.uk/Products/Fi ... nternal-Power-Filter-PF-1, yours contains 3 filter pads - plain, carbon and super-fine. I'm not sure, therefore, what the "bead-like things" are that you refer to although they sound like some form of chemical filtration (https://www.fishkeeping.co.uk/articles ... ilter-beginners-guide.htm).
https://www.interpet.co.uk/Media/InterpetUK/Skoo/2201/2201_7.pdf ought to accompany your filter - this version is a bit faded / difficult to read but your hard copy may be easier to read and may explain what the beads are.
