Cycling a 12 gallon tank #1
Hi, I am a new fish-keeping enthusiast and I am currently doing a fishes cycle for a new 12 gallon tank. The tank's nitrites peaked and then dropped to 0ppm and the ammonia was being reduced from 2.0ppm to 0.25ppm in 24 hours. The next day after getting the ammonia levels back up to 2.0ppm the nitrites spiked to 5.0ppm+ 24 hours later and have not gone down while the ammonia is being reduced to 0.25ppm. Even after a water change, and getting the ammonia back up to 2.0ppm, the nitrites skyrocket and don't come down in the slightest. This constant phase of ammonia addition and nitrite skyrocket has been happening for a few days now. What should I be doing to try and cycle the tank?

Any help will be appreciated.

Can you confirm whether you are cycling fish in or fishless?
