The Black Koi #1
Mum and dad had 70 bay koi that have survived about 40% of these are still black and i already have around 7 black koi of varying sizes.

I am going to reach a point where i have to whittle them down for pond health as you can imagine these plus all the others consume a ton of food.

I would rather them go to a good home than be faced with any other alternitive, i am increasing the pond size by around 7000 ltrs but this will not be enough at some point.

How desirable are black Koi?

Are you sure they are koi? Is there any goldfish in the pond. Do you have any pictures?

Sadly the babies are not koi they are goldfish. They are not worth anything really but you may be able to offer them for rehome on Facebook pages and such.

Re: The Black Koi #6
Hi
in respect of the babies not saying you are wrong but I am trying to understand what has happened, about 10 of the baby fish are white with red/orange spots and growing very fast, the eggs were noticed after i moved 6 large Koi and one goldfish from the pond to their new home, i thought it takes two to tango is there any way a koi can fertilize goldfish or vice verse? if not then i have no idea what has happened here?

as for the large black fish in the other picture it is over a foot long closer to 14" are you saying that this is a goldfish too? it was mainly the large black fish I was interested in?

Also do goldfish change color from black when they are babies?

Thanks

If you are correct then it is a bit of a relief actually as they won?t grow as big as the other 2 foot Koi in the pond consuming and stretching tons of resources from the pond itself, I also have friends that would take goldfish on but not so much koi.

Yes, its not unusual for goldfish to be black when they hatch

Goldfish can grow big too, they and Koi are both from the carp family
Good quality costs. Bear this in mind before you start.

Sorry if my reply is NOT want you want to hear, but what I have said is true.

We can only go by what you type.

A "thank you" costs nothing, but goes a long way.

Re: The Black Koi #9
Well there you go; you learn something new every day gone from having one goldfish to loads of them, will have to do a bit more research on this.

My main reasoning for thinking they were koi to start with is i only had one goldfish i did not think this was possible.

I have read conflicting results of goldfish growing no bigger than 300mm is this true?

Thanks for your help.

Re: The Black Koi #10
Two possibilities: the young are goldfish/koi hybrids (most likely as goldfish and koi interbreed very easily) or alternatively if you added any plants to the pond that came from a stocked pond elsewhere it's possible that there were fertile goldfish eggs on them. 99.9% likely that this is just a simple goldfish/koi spawning and the babies are hybrids.

Common goldfish can reach 18 inches/10lbs in the right environment. Koi/Goldfish hybrids anywhere up to the max for a pure Koi.
