Super Red Kribs #1
Hi all, a few months ago i bought some young 'super red kribs'. Am i right in thinking they are a line bred colour form of p.pulcher? Rather than a location. They have grown and coloured up nicely in there seperate tanks and the males are now around 4"tl the female around 2.5"tl. Pic of male
Super Red krib. The plan was to line breed one pair, one red male with normal female, one red female with albino male. What do you think?

Re: Super Red Kribs #4
As far as I know the "Super Red" is a tank-bred strain of P. pulcher. I gather the extreme red colouration is a recessive trait so the outcomes from the two proposed breeding lines could be interesting, depending on the exact genetic make up of the adults.

Thanks for the fast reply fishlady. I am definately doing the red to normal and red to red. To see which gives the best results. Red to albino is out of pure curiousity

Re: Super Red Kribs #6
You'll probably find the Red/Albino will produce normal looking offspring as albino is a recessive trait but it'll be interesting to see what you get if you breed one of the offspring to another albino!!
I had a male like yours about 20 years ago, threw out some interesting offspring, beautiful markings but the best I got was a half black male. Lower half of his body including his tail was completely black. The yellow banding was still present though. Never got to breed from him unfortunately, died quite suddenly. May have been due to his colouring as heavily melanistic variations of most animals tend to suffer from other health issues, same can be said for true albinos too.

Good luck with it! :)

Re: Super Red Kribs #7
My two Kribs that I purchased a couple of months ago paired quickly and had their first batch of fry two weeks later. The fry are now 6 weeks old and all are fine. I've noticed tonight that the male is chasing the female quite aggressively and her belly is bright pink. Is this the start of spawning again or is this some sort of after breeding aggression? I can separate them if this a problem. They are in a 80l planted tank all to themselves with plenty of separate caves and hiding holes. Any advice please?

He's trying to encourage her to spawn again. If they do spawn, be aware that they will probably turn on the first batch of fry in order to protect the new batch.
